The Rumor Mill: Wale, Kid Cudi and Drake Named GQ’s Man of The Year?

By Danielle Canada

I need confirmation on this STAT!

Rumors are swirling that GQ’s named three of the biggest names in rap, their man of the year.

It’s been no secret that Wale, Kid Cudi and Drake have been in the running for the esteemed honor.

In fact I remember when Wale tweeted this pic of the three contenders on set of the shoot.

Now reports are surfacing that ALL THREE men tied for the award.

Crazy, right?!

If the rumor is true, that’s a big move for Hip-Hop and I applaud them.

Special shoutout to Drake who had a premonition about the event in “Man Of The Year” from Comeback Season:

“Damn, I done walked in here…looking like the muthf*ckin man of the year….”

I see you Drizzy!

BURR!

Even though Gucci Mane is “So Icey”, the man is undeniably ‘so hot’ right now.

After landing at number six on the list of ‘Top Ten MCs’, the ‘So Icey One’s’ been in overdrive dropping his Burrprint (The Movie 3-D) mixtape and taking shots at Jay-Z.

Now Gucc has done it again, announcing that he’s doing an unprecedented feat and dropping three mixtapes in one day. That’s right, three. For the special occasion, Gucci enlisted the help of three of the South’s biggest DJs.

Lending their ears, talents and blending to the project are his always reliable affiliate; DJ Drama as well as DJ Scream and DJ Holiday.

DJ Drama confirmed the upcoming mixtapes to MTV saying:

“People need to be near a computer on 10/17 at 10:17 p.m. — DJ Drama, DJ Scream and DJ Holiday, The Cold War, a three-part series, three tapes, very worldly. It’ll definitely make sense. Look for some big records on there. “

DJ Holiday also made sure to add:

“Gucci wants to flood the streets, takeover. The mixtape is called The Cold War, and it’ll be a three-part series, Gucci America, Burr Britain and Burr Russia. They’re droppin’ Saturday at 10:17 p.m.”

Holiday is on Burr Russia, Scream is on Burr Britain and Drama’s on Gucci America.

Damn Gucci! Three mixtapes in one day?!

The Rumor Mill: Well That Engagement Didn’t Last Long

Miss Kim Zolciak recently admitted that her engagement to Big Poppa, aka Lee Najjar, has ended. The RHOA diva said that she doesn’t plan on going back either. She says, “I’m not engaged anymore. At the end of the day, he will always be the love of my life, but it’s time for me to move on.” No one really expected their wedding to be on the next season, so this is no surprise.

It seems that PETA has problem  with miss Pairs the heiress. Recently Paris Hilton bought a miniature pig for $4,500. PETA’s people said Miss Hilton is a“wretched example of treating animals like they were as disposable as her friends and fiancés.”

Overtime: LA Team Has Guardian Angel

When the Los Angeles Angels take to the baseball field on Friday (Oct. 16th) against the New York Yankees in the American League Division Series, the franchise will have more than winning on its mind.  After sweeping the Boston Red Sox 3-0 to clinch the division title, the Angels will advance with one less player in the bullpen.  Earlier this year, 22 year-old rookie pitcher Nick Adenhart and two others were killed by a drunk driver, just hours after he started in his first major league game against the Oakland A’s.  Although the game resulted in a loss for the Angels, Adenhart proved himself to the veteran players on the team when he struck out five batters in six innings.  Naturally, his untimely death shocked not only his family and friends, but fans of America’s favorite pastime were saddened when they received word of the tragedy as well.

The LA Angels were faced with a tough decision: do they celebrate Adenhart’s life or mourn the young player who was steadily making strides in his budding baseball career?  Seems simple enough, but for the organization as a whole they made a conscious decision to remember their fallen star in every way possible.  During the ALDS in September they brought Adenhart’s jersey with them everywhere; it even hangs in its own locker, and during the traditional post-game champagne-drenching festivities, the jersey was soaked in the expensive beverage and to some that came off as disrespectful.  Onlookers felt that the team was exploiting Adenhart rather than praising his skill and remembering his spirit.  General manager, Tony Reagins, reassured the naysayers that they meant no harm, “he’s a part of this organization…he’s a part of what they accomplished.  He’s a teammate.  He’s always going to be a teammate.”

Soon after, officials for the team met and agreed that they would stop selling Adenhart’s jersey, and the team store online will no longer allow fans to use Adenhart’s #34 when customizing their own uniforms.  In addition to that, the Angels were given the Adenhart family’s blessing before giving TBS the go-ahead to air a commercial commemorating the former high school draft pick.

So as the Angels begin their march towards their second World Series title since 2002, they do so by never forgetting Nick Adenhart; their real life angel in the outfield.

Cultivate It: ATL Happy Hours

By Danielle Canada

Atlanta is a beautiful place to relax and unwind especially after a long’s day of hard work. If you’re in the area or plan to be in the area soon here are a couple of places to visit for some top of the line libations. 😉

595 North

My personal favorite!

Every Friday 595 opens its doors for Happy Hour from 6 to 9 p.m. Admission is free (Although I hear they charge $5 after a certain time) and here’s the kicker:

FREE DRINKS!

595 has an open bar exclusively on Fridays for their after work crowd. The venue is spacious and often features a live band.

Expect a crowd of college seniors from the Atlanta University Center as well as other young professionals.

255 Tapas Lounge

255 is set on Atlanta’s Peters Street, the new alternative to the now “dead” Buckhead.

Peters Street is often crowded with the young, fly and flashy and if you’re looking for a quaint place to eat, drink and watch sports, then this is the place for you.

Their Happy Hour specials include $4 beers, $4 wings, $5 well drinks and $1 shots.

Dave and Buster’s

D&B

Dave and Buster’s has become a personal favorite of mine especially since learning that they have not one but TWO chances to make your day that much more “happy.”

The game room/ restaurant usually seems like a place for kids but brings out adults from all across Atlanta looking for a place to ‘bring their fun.’

The establishment has Happy Hour from 4:30-7 Monday through Friday and then again from 9 to 11 Sunday through Thursday. All drinks are half off, so that means shots around $2 and drinks for $3.

When you do visit the gamer’s haven try the “Lethal Weapon”, you’ll love it!  😉

Happy Hunting and Happy Friday!
