Today has been a big day for Hip Hop as many anticipated the release of rapper Jamal “Shyne Po” Barrow.

On Tuesday, Shyne was scheduled to be released from prison after serving his 10-year bid.

Yet, Shyne is having trouble making his way back to freedom. He’s been held up by immigration issues and may face deportation to his home country of Belize. He is currently being held by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in New York.

Shyne has received two and a half years of probation upon his release.

He was convicted of two counts of reckless assault, reckless endangerment and gun possession for his role in the December 1999 club shooting in New York. The highly publicized incident involved Bad Boy mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs and his then-girlfriend Jennifer Lopez.

Shyne was signed to Bad Boy Records and had only released one album before the trial started. Later, in 2004 he released Godfather Buried Alive from prison. Shyne was often compared to Notorious BIG and almost took the legendary rapper’s place in Bad Boy after Biggie’s death.

Shyne spoke to MTV News in 2004 and said he was still rapping and ready to make music. His plans to go back to the rap game might just be on hold.

Stay tuned for updates on the Shyne Po story.
