The Limelight: Jay-Z’s MLB Debut Put On Hold

By Melva N. Lloyd

Image courtesy of “Jay-Z” Carter and Alicia Keys were scheduled to perform their hometown hit “Empire State of Mind” for Game 1 of this years’ World Series, but New York Yankees fans will have to wait just one more day to witness the iconic performance.  Jay-Z was already scheduled to perform at the Value City Arena on the campus of Ohio State University on his Blueprint 3 Tour.  Even with tickets sold and eager fans waiting to see his live show, Jay-Z thought he could perform with Alicia Keys and make the trip to Columbus, Ohio in time for his concert.

However, Jay-Z’s camp reminded him of unavoidable roadblocks that could prevent the superstar from making it to a show that has been scheduled for over a month now; possible rain delays, flight cancellations and the inevitable New York City traffic.

Rather than risking upsetting thousands of fans, Jay-Z and Alicia Keys will perform the New York Yankees anthem before Game 2 of this years’ World Series on Thursday (October 29th).

The Yankees will take on the Philadelphia Phillies in their first World Series appearance since 2000.
