In the News: Woman’s First Time Lotto Ticket Pays Big

By: Tiffani Haynes

There’s a first time for everything and paying a lottery ticket for the first time has Mi Hyun Moon rolling in the dough. After purchasing a ticket from a Queens, NY deli so that she could get change for a $5 bill to catch the bus home, Moon hit the lottery.

On a regular afternoon home from work, she swapped a $5 bill for five million. That’s how much Moon won in the Sept. 14 lottery drawing. Though she is originally from Korea, she had lived in New York before moving to Philadelphia. Moon had come back to visit her family and friends when she bought the ticket.

“I come back to Queens to visit with family and friends about once a month or so,” Moon told the New York Post. “This is one trip I won’t forget!”

After the taxes and other winners, she will take home a little over $1.8 million.
