Darius Rucker is known as the being the frontman of the group Hootie & The Blowfish, but now he is making his mark on the country music scene. His debut cd, Learn to Live, has sold over a million copies. Tomorrow night the Country Music Awards will air live on ABC, and Darius Rucker has been nominated for two awards. Rucker is up for “Best Male Vocalist” and “Best New Artist.” If Rucker wins the new artist awards, he will be the first Black artist to do so. If he wins the award for best vocalist, he will be the second Black country singer to win the award. Charley Pride received the award in 1971. Ray Charles has also received CMA nominations, but he wasn’t considered a country singer. Rucker will also perform during the award show.
