By Melva N. Lloyd

Tiger Woods was seriously injured in a car accident that took place early Friday morning outside of his Florida home.

Authorities reported that Woods, 33, was driving when his car struck a tree and a fire hydrant while pulling out of the driveway of his Florida mansion.

Woods was taken to the Health Central Hospital where his injuries were reported as serious.

Patrol spokeswoman Kim Montes reported that alcohol was not a factor in the accident but it will remain under investigation.

Woods has won a total of 82 times around the world, including 14 majors.  He recently returned to his Orlando, Florida home after winning the Australian Masters on Nov. 15th.  This year, he has won six times after missing eight months rehabbing his knee due to reconstructive surgery.

Upon returning to his $2.4 million home in the Isleworth subdivision of Orlando, he tossed the coin at the beginning of the Stanford-Cal football game and was inducted into Stanford’s sports Hall of Fame during halftime.

Woods was scheduled to host his annual tournament, the Chevron World Challenge, on Monday at the Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, California.

Woods married Elin Nordegren in 2004; they have two children together.
