In The News: ESPN & Discovery Go 3D

The Discover Channel and ESPN announced yesterday that they will soon be launching their 3D channels. ESPN plans to get theirs going this summer. June 11 to be exact, just in time for the FIFA World Cup. According to OMG, ESPN plans to air the 2011 college football championship game, select college football and basketball games,  the Summer X Games, and 25 World Cup Matches. In between aired segments, the ESPN channel will go black.  The Discovery Channel will start-up in 2011, and will have 3D shows 24/7.

These will be the first 3D channels. And in order to view them audiences will need 3D glasses, a 3D capable tv, and possibly a 3D box.
