Cultivate It: MLK: The Man, The Visionary, The Legend

How do you introduce a man who needs no introduction? In honor of the great Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Status Media has put together a few fun facts about the legend that is MLK:

  • MLK Jr.’s birth name is Michael Luther King Jr.
  • He was born on January 15, 1929 in Atlanta, GA.
  • His father changed both their first names to Martin after visiting Germany and learning of German Protestant Martin Luther in 1934.
  • In 1948 he graduated from Morehouse College.
  • MLK Jr. is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated, he became apart of the brotherhood in 1952 at Boston University.
  • In 1964, he won the Nobel Peace Prize.
  • In 1983, MLK Jr.’s birthday is signed into law as a federal holiday.
  • King’s nonviolent approach was strongly influenced by Gandhi.
  • In 1964, MLK Jr. became the first Black man to become Time magazine’s Man of the Year.

Martin Luther King Jr. continues to affect our world today because of what he believed in decades ago. May today be one of service and remembrance for his values and beliefs. Happy MLK Jr. Day!
