Another day of justice for the boys in blue. Officer Richard Kern was acquitted on aggravated sexual abuse charges that could have sent him to prison for 25 years. Officers Andrew Morales and Alex Cruz were also acquitted on charges of hindering prosecution.
The accuser Michael Mineo 25, was not inside the courtroom when the verdict was announced. He told the Associated Press that he had a feeling the officers would be acquitted. Mineo filed a $440 million lawsuit against the city and his lawyer Stephen Jackson, said the case would continue as planned and not be affected by today’s verdict.
Mineo claimed that he was assaulted at a Brooklyn subway station in October 2008 after the police chased him for smoking marijuana. He said that he was handcuffed and Officer Kern sodomized him with a baton stick. According to Mineo, the officers tried to buy his silence after the incident occurred.
