LimeLight: New Vids – Nicki Minaj + Usher

For those not on Twitter, Nicki Minaj premiered her new video today via 106&Park, and everyone was talking about her “assets.” Not a favorite song of mine, but she is creative, and this video is just a preview of what to expect from her album. Peep the video for “Massive Attack” featuring Sean Garrett below…

Usher released a video for his song “OMG” featuring Will.I.Am off his new album Raymond v. Raymond. This has not been officially slated as his next single, but it could do great on the Pop charts and radio.

Status Release: Curren$y, Erykah Badu, Usher

Currens$y “Pilot Talk”

If you think you don’t know who Curren$y is, I almost guarantee you do. This New Orleans based artist burst onto the Hip-Hop scene as part of Lil Wayne’s Young Money imprint where he released this classic HU student center banger.

His time under Weezy was short lived however and he moved on to take the underground scene by storm. He’s flooded the mixtape market with free downloads before releasing his debut album “This Aint’ No Mixtape.” Since then he’s hooked up with Dame Dash for the second installment into his official discography which allegedly hits the net today after a March 23rd push back.

You’ll more than likely have to search online to find it but it might be worth it…Curren$y’s Pilot Talk “allegedly” drops today.

Erykah Badu “New Amerykah Part Two: Return of the Ankh”

Erkyah Badu made a stellar PR movie dropping the video (and her clothes) for “Window Seat.” The mother of three from Jay Electronica, Andre 3000 and D.O.C. is releasing her new album today which should promise to be filled with the classic Baduism fans have grown to know and love.

The Washington Post did a review on it and described it saying,

“There’s something unhurried and aloof about “Return of the Ankh,” but 39-year-old Badu still sings with a magnetism that compels us to follow her to and fro….

If you missed it…shame on you.

Check out NewAmerykah getting racy in her controversial video for “Window Seat.”

Usher “Raymond v.s Raymond”

Usher’s new album drops today and I have a gut feeling that today wasn’t the best release date for the new project. Usher’s gotten buzz around his singles “Hey Daddy” and “Lil Freak” but will it be substantial enough to drive sales for today’s release?

In my opinion, NO.

Ursh probably should’ve waited till about May to generate more buzz and drop a few more singles but, what do I know?

According to SMG’s own Sarah J, it might be worth the buy.

She gives it 3 out of 5 stars and gave Usher his props on it saying,

“This album takes more than one listen as it grows with each spin, and there is some great lyrical content hidden in several of the tracks.”

Just in time for today’s release Usher dropped a new video, “OMG” featuring Will.I.Am of the Blackeyed Peas.

Not sure what’s missing here but Usher’s gotta come harder if he wants to keep up with the person currently in R&B’s top spot, Trey Songz.

The Limelight: Khia Speaks on Lil’ Wayne and Nicki Minaj

By Danielle Canada

“She’s an actor, she majored in drama…right? She’s acting…”

Rapper Khia has never been known to hold her tongue and these days it’s no different.

The “My Neck, My Back” one-hit wonder is doing her best to promote an upcoming double disc album through disses and controversy.

As previously reported, she dissed her longtime foe Trina after nude pictures of her leaked from cellphone.

Now however she’s once again professing her love for Lil Wayne and questioning the Young Money heads’ female protégé.

Speaking in an interview with Street Disciplez radio, Khia makes it known that she’s always been a longtime “supporter” of Lil Wayne and speaks avidly on her hopes of being a part of his harem of women. While she says she doesn’t want to have any of his babies, he’s the “king” and can have “all the wives he wants.” According to Khia, rich men like Lil Wayne and Tiger Woods are entitled to have more than one wife.

“I’m just letting him sow all his royal oats and have fun. I’m his biggest fan…I don’t want no babies I’m gonna let them have all the babies that they want. He’s the king, he can have all the wives that he can take care of….when you have as much money as Lil Wayne and Tiger Woods you can have all the wives that you want.”

Moving past her infatuation with Weezy, Florida’s finest says that everyone’s favorite Harajuku Barbie is nothing more than an actress. When asked her thoughts on Nicki Minaj, she at first says that if Lil Wayne “likes her, she loves her” but goes on to diss her saying,

“She’s an actor, she majored in drama…right? She’s acting. She’s always in character, I don’t know if it’s really her. Like everyone knows it’s me. It’s Khia, I’m Khia…”

SMH…poor Khia. Are you jealous?

The Limelight: Erykah Badu – “Window Seat”

By Melva N. Lloyd

Erykah Badu has the internet buzzing with her newest video for “Window Seat”, the lead single from her upcoming album New Amerykah, Part II: Return of the Ankh

The video was released at 3:33 a.m. EST on Saturday and was filmed in downtown Dallas – no production crew, no closed set, shot guerilla style and the songstress was given one chance to complete the shoot.

After receiving support and blessings from her family and friends she went for it.  Badu strips down to nothing as she walks the “grassy knoll” in her hometown of Dallas on St. Patrick’s Day;  She says via her Twitter page (@fatbellybella):

“…heard people yelling diff things @ me but i held my head up and kept moving.there were children there.i prayed they wouldnt b traumatized…”

Check out the video and let SMG know what you think.  Erykah Badu’s new album hits the shelves on Tuesday March 30, 2010.

Usher Album Review: “Raymond v. Raymond”

Is Usher back? No one has seen the the R&B legend in true form since his 2004 mega album “Confessions.” While he did make an effort with his last album “Here I Stand,” it was an unappreciated effort, and seemed Usher the family man had replaced the dancing, singing star everyone loved. Usher is fresh off a divorce and is seemingly back to the music, as his new album Raymond v. Raymond hits stores March 30th.

Usher opens the album with the track Monstar, stating “There are three sides to every story. There’s one side, there’s the other, and then there’s the truth.” Monstar offers a Michael Jackson type flow, which is evident as it was produced by the music industry legends Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis.  Usher’s popular second single Daddy’s Home follows the intro track and features production by The Runners. The mood is slowed down with the track “There Goes My Baby” which Usher proclaims his feelings for his lady as he sings “I been waiting all day to wrap my hands around your waist, and kiss your face/Wouldn’t trade this feeling for nothing.” Usher follows up with his popular single “Lil Freak” featuring Nicki Minaj.

The Limelight: Real Housewives are Coming to The Capital

By: Tiffani Haynes

D.C. divas will get a chance to show how real their housewives are in Bravo’s upcoming season of “Real Housewives.”

The show has set its sights on the nation’s capital and if-and-when the “Real Housewives of D.C.” is aired they’ll have a couple that’s no stranger to scandal. Sources say that White House Party Crashers Tareq and Michaele Salahi will be featured in the show.

Here's the Salahis with Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel

You remember them right? How couldn’t you? They were the infamous party crashers who showed up at the White House’s state dinner and worked their way past guards and Secret Service to hob knob with the government elite. Now of course they were discovered to be the fakes they actually are and were booted out but for that moment, they were in. So thus, a reality star couple was born.

Since the couple is under federal investigation for that little stunt, the cast hasn’t been confirmed yet. Bravo reps aren’t deny nor confirming who the entire cast will be but I’ll be tuned in. These casts get crazier and crazier with every season.

Think they’ll tell how they pulled off the caper?
