Status Profile: Marc H. Morial

Some of you may recognize the man in the photograph above… He is Marc H. Morial, President and CEO of the National Urban League.  For those of you that don’t know what he’s about, here’s a little FYI…

Marc was born and raised in New Orleans, LA where he later became mayor; a position he held from 1994 until 2002.  During his time in office, he addressed the issue of corruption in the city’s police department by hiring a new superintendent and bringing in FBI agents to investigate a litany of issues.  The city of New Orleans also saw a 60% reduction in violent crime during his two terms in office.  Anyone that knows anything about New Orleans, knows that this was a milestone.

Shortly after completion of his second term as mayor of New Orleans, he was appointed as the new CEO of the National Urban League, a position that is not to be taken lightly.  The National Urban League is a civil rights organization that was founded in 1910.  It is the oldest and largest community activism organization of its kind.  Over 100 local affiliate centers can be found in 36 states across the United States including Washington D.C.  It is dedicated to economic empowerment in order to elevate the standard of living in underserved urban communities.
