Today in History

Happy St. Patrick’s Day to all! Seeing that today is the day of Saint Patrick, we found it befitting to educate you on his day in history, along with a few other interesting events that took place on March 17.

Saint Patrick’s Day– Saint Patrick lived during the 5th century AD and was not Irish, but English (contrary to what many believe). He is celebrated in Ireland because it is said he introduced the Irish to Christianity. Sidebar: Guinness Beer estimates 13 million pints of its product will be consumed today. Does anyone else see the irony here? Moving on…

 Lil’ Kim–

You all know this young lady in the picture above. On March 17, 2005, Kimberly Jones was convicted of lying to a grand jury about a shooting that took place outside a New York radio station (snitches get stitches right)?  Kim denied being able to identify a member of her former group, Junior M.A.F.IA. She also lied when she testified that her manager was not near her when shots fired; a surveillance tape later proved otherwise. The rapper served 10 months of her 366 day sentence.

Lisa Ling Detained– Lisa Ling is known as a former cast member on “The View” and for her hard-hitting documentaries featured on CNN and Oprah.  One year ago today, journalist Lisa Ling, her sister and friend were detained in North Korea for  illegally crossing the Chinese/North Korean border. The group was reporting on North Korean refugees living in China. In June, The women were sentenced to 12 years of hard labor. WOW. Hard labor in North Korea? No bueno. Luckily for the ladies, Bill Clinton used his diplomatic skills to have the women freed in back to America in August 2009.
